It's late but Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a great holiday!

I had a very relaxing time off though I did have a bit of a cold. Hubby's family came over on the 1st and we ate the "osechi" we bought plus I made some food. We ate, drank and chatted. It was fun but they brought up the topic of kids. We don't want them...don't get me wrong...I love kids but I don't want my own. They are worried about who will take care of us when we are older. Well...my mom (who doesn't actually need to be taken care of!) has 3 kids but 2 of us live in foreign countries and the one who actually lives in Canada is still a 5 hour plane ride away. So... you never know if your kids will even be around! Sadly, I think the topic will come up again.

I don't know about you but 2010 feels different from 2009. I mean different in a positive way. I am so excited about this year. We have some business goals we are working towards and I have many personal ones as well. Of course, some goals are around money both business and personal. I have downloaded all the Suze Orman podcasts (man I love podcasts) and I joined the http://www.dailyworth.com/ blog which is great and while all the info doesn't apply to a Canadian living in Japan, there is still lots of great stuff. Anyway, it all just feels so good and so right! Hopefully I will feel the same way as the year progresses.

I went back to work on Wednesday and I have to say I just wasn't ready for it....after working only 3 days I am pooped!! But my last student had some pretty cool nails that I thought I would show you. She is 20 so on Sunday all over Japan there are "coming-of-age" ceremonies and the girls usually get all decked out. Her mom rented her a beautiful kimono and paid for eye lash extensions and the nails. The nails alone cost $150 but they are beautiful!

Anyway, I wish everyone the best for this year!!

Yeah, I am worried about my mom. I'm the only kid, she's single and I want to move away ><

Those nails are so beautiful, I want to get some done like that someday but I can never justify the price. I wish we had a big coming of age day in America with beautiful clothing. We just get to drink alot on 21 XP

not practical but pretty looking nails :)

I use to get asked all the time when are we having kids and people do still hint at it, so I've had to become very abrupt when asked. I'm nice at first when asked, but when people keep asking I usually say something that shuts them up pretty fast. And while its not the best solution, I just got sick of being asked.

And I thought only Jewish mothers asked about kids. I'm with you - I don't want any kids. My own parents got the hint, but sometimes even people who have just met me tell me with a knowing smile that "it will come". I've learned to ignore it.

I have to confess that I'm rather scared of these nails... O_o

Happy new year!

Well I guess moms and grandmoms all over the world ask the same question. I am Chinese I know. The minute you got married the following few months would be "when is junior coming" Anyway I love kids, that's why I had 2. I know I won't be doing the same to my 2 sons next time.

my husband and i get the "kids" talk from family sometimes, too. first of all, it's none of their business, am i right?! i just think it's sort of rude. secondly, i have never wanted children. i am an only child (so is brandon, actually) and have never been around kids, and i just don't think it would be a good fit. thirdly, if that weren't enough, i can't naturally conceive, and it just seems silly to spend tens of thousands of dollars to make a baby when, if brandon and i decided we do want one, we can adopt a baby or an older child. so anyway, i know how uncomfortable those talks can be! i feel for ya!

i also agree about 2010 feeling different in a good way - let's hope so! :D

those nails are fabulous, too!

happy new year, sofia!

Akemashite omedeto gozaimasu!!

You in laws sound like my parents when it comes to children... Not only was it children, but you NEED to have a girl........ Anyhow, it's your life and really, none of their business =)

I can't understand how people could spend so much on nails!! I'm constantly using my hands - they'd get ruined in minutes after getting them done LoL!!

Both sad and glad that we aren't the only ones feeling the pressure! They are taking us out for our wedding anniversary (in February) and we are both hoping that they don't bring it up!! Keep your fingers crossed for us!

And about the nails....my student still loves them but she is finding them troublesome now. She wears contacts and to put them in is no problem but to take them out ....she takes 2 q-tips and gets the cotton wet and then puts them on her contact (that is in her eye!) and pushes them together to pop them out. OMG!!!! I hope she doesn't damage her eye doing that!
