Thanks to a reader (Annalisa) who posted a comment in one of my blog posts about living gluten free in Japan I now know about this restaurant. It is in Roppongi and is the sister restaurant to the original which is in East Melbourne. It is Japan's first wheat and gluten free restaurant. It is called S. Komatsu.
To ensure that it is completely gluten and wheat free they make all their own sauces and condiments and all are completely free of preservatives, additives, artificial colours and sweeteners.
It isn't very often that I wished I lived in Tokyo but.....iina!!! (means I'm jealous!).

Thanks so much for the great posts on eating gluten free in Japan! Living in Australia, I have been very spoiled with a wide choice of gluten-free restaurants right on my doorstep.
In comparison, I have had a lot of trouble traveling, even in other countries where I speak the local language. Next February I will be venturing to Japan - my first try at traveling gluten free in a country where I don't speak the language.
This will help a lot, I hadn't heard of Yakiniku before, but it sounds like the best option when eating out. Hopefully I can get my own soy sauce in without too much trouble.

I was wondering if you know if this restaurant is still open? I am planning a trip to Japan stopping in Tokyo for a night or two and after reading several blogs I am terrified that I will starve to death while I'm there. I am so afraid that my whole trip is going to be consumed with trying to find appropriate food for me.
Sorry but I don't think it is serving gluten free anymore!! I won't lie...it will be very hard and Japanese don't understand this allergy/sensitivity.
